Excellence
“Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.” Ralph Marston
Choosing Excellence in all you do...
As a long-term Firefighter (dare I say veteran firefighter) I have certainly worked with many different people over the years in some very challenging and difficult situations. The people that stood out to me, were always the ones that lead by example with integrity and treating everyone on scene with a great deal of respect and maintained focus on the task at hand.
Excellence is not perfection. It doesn't mean that you never make a mistake or lose your cool. It does mean that you own your mistakes and choose to do better next time.
Excellence is performing a task to the best of your ability and with attention to detail, even when you don't think it's your job. On a fire scene, there is no time to argue about what is not your job.
How you respond to challenging situations defines your character.
How you respond to people and situations is a choice. Sometimes we fail to realize the significance of small actions that can leave a lasting impact. My hope is that my team and I demonstrate excellence in how we serve our customers and communities.
Thanks for reading and wishing you all a year of excellence in 2024!
